Dust City Opera is the eccentric, folk-rock brainchild of singer/songwriter Paul Hunton.
We came together in early 2018 to play a show with a few friends and unexpectedly grew into a fun, rocking band.
Paul’s songwriting is strikingly visual and spans the spectrum from playful to apocalyptic, balancing his powerful voice over dreamy guitar licks and intensely rich horns. By and large, the themes of our music are drawn from his affinity for storytelling. Mix this with his dry sense of humor, and you get that bizarre blending of death and whimsy in many of our songs.
We have been compared to the likeness of Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, and Cake with a folksy richness that is paired with a unique instrumentation of clarinets, trombone, and accordion.
At the end of the day, we are all about creating quality music, playing quality shows, and connecting personally with our fans. Our music is rich and diverse and somewhat theatrical. Dust City Opera is a celebration of humor and darkness and levity.
The release of our 2019 debut album, "Heaven," sparked a wave of media appearances and captured international attention with industry leaders such as Eric Alper and Movimento Country and we were recently named Modern Musician’s 2019 Gold Artist of the Year.
We’re currently working on a new album and touring.
Stay tuned.
